"We regret the fact that a re-united Cyprus can not be EU member on 1st of May. Both peoples of the island have a certain place in the Union.
We appreciate the initiative of Prime Minister Erdogan and of the Turkish Government in order to re-unite Cyprus. Now, the EU must evaluate how it can contribute and facilitate the trade in the island and the border crossings between the two parts. On the other hand, we must reconsider the modalities of the economic support for the harmonization of the North with the EU" (unofficial translation)
